  My journey began as a kid baling hay in the hot Virginia sun, swinging a hammer on a construction site, squeezed into crawl spaces, and installing insulation in attics. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I knew it involved wearing a clean white shirt and working in an air-conditioned office!

I started living that dream in my twenties. For the next 40 years, I didn't just study business in theory; I lived it through ownership across multiple fields, always with my own money on the line. Many of those ventures did not work out, and I still have the scar tissue to prove it—but the setbacks never put out the fire that churned in my gut.

For a significant portion of that time, I served as an Investment Portfolio Manager for high-net-worth clients. That role became a masterclass in business strategy, leadership, and resilience. My clients were mostly entrepreneurs, CEOs, and established business owners who generously shared the daily realities of scaling, leading, and innovating.

This unique vantage point—combining my own practical experience with privileged insight into hundreds of successful (and struggling) enterprises—is the bedrock of my practice today. I’ve learned business the traditional way and through the grit of starting from scratch, navigating partnerships, and adapting to constant change.
